| Called the "It bag of the future" by Teen Vogue, this stylish and ridiculously practical bag (sold in packages of 3 and 6) is one easy step in helping save the planet. Baggu ("bag" in Japanese) is machine washable, and folds up into it's own pouch small enough to tuck into your handbag or pocket. Made of super-tough ripstop nylon in bright, fun colors, it's the re-usable bag that's eco-chic. | | Photos courtesy of Dan Martensen. | Why Baggus are so great? You want to replace your old friends, the paper & plastic bags, with something that does their job without creating needless waste or harming the environment. Using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags. -
One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags. Six bags can hold a whole cart full of groceries. -
Baggu Bag handles are the perfect length: you can hold them in your hand, on your forearm, or over your shoulder. -
They are made from super strong rip-stop nylon (holds 25 lbs) so they are light (2 oz) and compactible. They fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket. That way they are always handy when you need them. -
Baggu bags have a nice big gusset in the bottom so they will sit flat when they are filled (good for eggs & milk.) | | Smart Design Baggu was designed by mother-daughter team Joan and Emily in California. They both saw the need for a better reusable bag, and after dozens of prototypes, came up with a solution that makes using reusable bags stylish, practical and easy. | | Baggu is great whether you shop on foot or drive to the store, you always need to have a bag or two that fold up small and can be carried in your purse, ready for an unexpected errand. | | | We use lightweight, hard working fabrics to make bags that will perform years of service in all of our daily toting tasks: groceries, pharmacy purchases, gifts, and books, and pet food, and clothes and ... All the tons of things we find ourselves accepting a disposable bag to bring home. Changing our own shopping habits is one small thing we can do to make a difference. We hope you feel good every time you use your BAGGU. | Plastic Bags & the Planet The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year. Most of those bags end up in land fills. That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year. In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose. Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife. Every time you use your Baggu bag instead of plastic or paper you are doing something good. |
Amazon.com Product Description Do your part for the environment, stylishly, with Baggu's reusable shopping tote. A cart full of groceries fits perfectly in six of these sacks. March 11, 2008 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
First off, I have to admit, I love these bags more than I thought I would. So much so that I use them for everything now: groceries, library books, gym clothes. I just keep them in my car and haul them in and out. However, I never use their little pocket-sized packaging. It's just kind of a pain to get them in and out of those things since I use them so often. Perhaps if I walked to the store folding them up would be more convenient. Even better, would be if they redesigned them so that the small holders were part of the bag, so it wasn't something extra to lose.
Better than the photos. November 2, 2007 34 out of 36 found this review helpful
These bags are strong and well-designed. Fit perfectly in your hand, even when full of heavier groceries. And the colors look more vibrant in person than they do in the photos. Great idea, well made.
Chic, easy and environmentally friendly! November 4, 2007 24 out of 26 found this review helpful
Baggus are easy to use and very practical. They're a very well thought out product. You can carry them over your shoulder and on your arm. The thick handles won't hurt your hand, and they're easy to fold back into the pouch. I always have at least one on me and use it all the time.
I love these bags May 15, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Look, I know they're not cheap. You can buy reusable bags for a lot less money. That said, these carry a lot more stuff than supermarket bags, they have gusseted bottoms so they can sit flat when you load them up. They're super light weight, they fold up small enough that you can stick them in your back pocket and they look really, really good. They also clean easily and due to the wide straps, are really comfortable to carry, even when full and heavy.
For me, the problem with a lot of the reusable bags out there is that (a) the material is often horrible, (b) they are too big when folded, (c) they're really, really ugly. Stupid patterns and slogans proclaiming what an awesome person you are for trying to be a little more earth-friendly. It's ridiculous.
I often give these as gifts to friends and they love them.
the reusable bag I never forget to use March 6, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you're like me, you've got a few reusable shopping totes riding around in your car ... and if you're really like me, you turn around and head back to your car when you see the friendly reminder sign on the door at Whole Foods that says "Do you have your bags?" or something else along those lines. While I'm much better about it now, it does happen -- it can be easy to leave them behind.
I have a few different types of these bags, and the Baggu is the one I never forget to use. Like many of the ultra-compact shopping bags, it's strong, well-made, and holds an impressive amount. It's available in a variety of attractive colors, and the long handles -- long enough to go over your shoulder, but not so long the bag drags the ground if carried in the hand -- are a big plus for me. It's definitely comparable to the Reisenthel Mini Maxi Shopper L (another excellent bag) ... but the real clincher for me is its size when folded. It folds into a 5" x 5" pouch that's less than 1/2" thick -- really easy for me to slide into my purse or a pocket. They fit practically anywhere ... and I stash them literally everywhere so I'm not caught without.
It's a matter of preference -- the Reisenthel shopper is stored in a cylindrical zipper pouch (approximately 5" x 2.5" x 2.5") with a handy clip that can be attached to a key chain or a belt loop, but it's a little too bulky for me.
If I could design my ideal Baggu, I would love an attached storage pouch (I just put it in the bottom of the opened bag -- haven't lost one yet!). Thermal capabilities (hot/cold) that didn't compromise the other features of this bag would put me over the moon.
The Baggu is the perfect choice for my everyday shopping ... and I like them so much I bought more to give as gifts. In fact, they're beautiful enough to use as gift bags -- a little unconventional, but a great idea.
